The Walt Disney Company Network Architect in Burbank, California

The key responsibilities of this position include development of network design plans and the development of reference architectures and standards for secure, high-performance networking across the enterprise. The position is responsible for understanding and interpreting global business and technical requirements in order to apply advanced network technologies for global consumption.

Responsibilities :

  • Participates in network design activities for projects supporting the various IT infrastructure peer domains including telecom/network, client/end-user technology, server & storage, info security, and hosting teams.

  • Designs complex new technology into the production network.

  • Develops and communicates network infrastructure design plans, future strategic and tactical plans to support decision making activities.

  • Researches and recommends next generation network technology, products, & services.

  • Designs customized solutions as required to support Business objectives.

  • Consults peer groups in the development of project plans & architectures.

  • Oversees lab tests, proofs-of-concept, bug scrubs, and other technical evaluations to ensure that new technology fits into the network and performs as expected.

Basic Qualifications :

  • 5+ years in an enterprise environment that operates 7x24 services to a multitude of customers and business units with a progression of responsibilities spanning operations, implementation, design, and architecture.:

  • One or more advanced certifications such as CISSP, Cisco CCIE, CSSLP, or equivalent networking certifications or education.

  • And at least two manufacturer certifications in the areas of switching/routing, firewalls, IPS, load balancers, and other related network technology.

Skills:

  • A successful candidate will have a balance of technical and non-technical skills. The candidate must have advanced data networking skills and experiences, both hands-on and theoretical. Other technical skills include wireless, voice, and security networking skills.

  • Working knowledge in networking and security technologies including: advanced routing and switching, wireless, voice, server, storage, hosting, data center design, and cloud connectivity.

  • Working knowledge of LAN/MAN/WAN topologies & platforms, routing protocols, current data center architectures, DNS/DHCP, IPAM, multicast, VRF, QoS, etc.

Experience:

  • Architecting world-class, large-scale data networks for global enterprises that maximize security, performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Working with business units and peer groups to rapidly develop and implement solutions.

  • Directly or indirectly leading teams of engineers in the implementation of complex technology.

  • Building and supporting enterprise LANs, MANs, WANs, VPNs, and remote access solutions in a variety of topologies.

  • Developing and communicating large-scale standards, procedures, and other reference documentation to guide technical teams throughout an enterprise.

  • Building network infrastructure in current-era data centers.

  • Experience with multiple vendor switching, routing, and security products (i.e. not just Cisco).

  • Hands-on experience in the past, although this position involves little hands-on or operational responsibilities.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate at various levels to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.

  • Ability to work in a highly visible fast paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Positive, collaborative, supportive, problem-solving approach to working with others

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Technical leadership experience in a large, complex enterprise (e.g. at least 30+ sites in multiple countries, at least 10-15k users but preferably 50k+ users).

Required Education :

  • Relevant technical certifications

Preferred Education :

  • 4-year degree in computer / engineering / MIS or related focus.
