Sutter Health Maintenance Mechanic (Crescent City, CA) (Full Time) in Crescent City, California

Maintenance mechanics are responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings, installed equipment and grounds. The incumbent orders parts and maintains stock levels as necessary. The Maintenance mechanics adhere to all applicable hospital policy and procedure, and are functionally familiar with regulatory codes and agencies and assure compliance with same. Maintenance mechanics are also responsible for accurate recording of repairs and preventive maintenance on various equipment in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and for carrying out these tasks in a timely and professional manner. The incumbent is responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of all equipment assigned to them. The incumbent is required to be part of the team, taking their turn performing fire drills, being On-call, generator runs, equipment rounds checks, roving assignments, and assisting teammates when necessary. Maintenance mechanics are responsible to anticipate the affect of their work on other hospital systems and mitigate that impact. The incumbent is responsible to accurately record repairs, preventive maintenance, and other pertinent data in a computerized maintenance program, track the purchases of parts, and report inconsistencies to the Maintenance Supervisor. They are to prioritize the work to maintain efficient work ethic. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for notifying other departments of work that will or is affecting them and to provide timely updates to them of the status of that work. The incumbent is responsible to accurately order repair parts on purchase orders and obtain any additional information from the vendor.


  • High school diploma OR equivalent education/experience required

  • Associates Degree preferred

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Driver License, Valid and in State - DL NUMBER


  • Five years experience in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of mechanical, electrical, electronic, computers, and patient care equipment in an institutional (preferably hospital) setting.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates ability to read and interpret blueprints

  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply manufactures specifications to the proper preventive maintenance of equipment.

  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to technical and non-technical staff.

  • Possesses a working knowledge of NFPA, NEC, Title 22 and Title 24 codes, and JCAHO standards and is able to apply them in the proper maintenance and repair of all hospital equipment and installed plant equipment under the maintenance department’s jurisdiction.

  • Demonstrates ability to anticipate additional personal training needs.

  • Possesses working knowledge of and troubleshooting skills for the following systems: HVAC/R, Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, Electronics, Phone/ Communication, Computer, and Mechanical.

  • Understands microbiological transfer mechanisms as they apply to health care infection control.
