The Art Collections Registrar is a non-exempt, part-time staff position which assists management within the Art Collections department. This position is schedule to work 30 hours per week.

In collaboration with the University Collections Director, the Assistant Collection Registrar will manage the Chapman Art collection, ensuring its preservation, access and safety. The Registrar is responsible for the organization, description and classification of the Chapman Collection of Art including The Phyliss and Ross Escalette Permanent Collection of Art. The position coordinates the technical aspects of exhibiting the art including the installation, mounting and lighting. The incumbent provides tours and lectures of the collection as requested and oversee the student Art Ambassador’s program. The Registrar performs other duties as assigned. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for the Administration Assistant position.


Specific Job Requirements: BA or BFA degree in art or related field. Minimum two year of museum or related experience in collections management field. Proficient with Collections Management Software. Knowledge of professional museum standards and ethics. Experience in working with curator/director on coordinating logistics for exhibitions and collections. Understanding of artwork and ability to handle any art object with care.

General Job Requirements: Ability to work as a team member. Ability to take initiative and complete projects with minimal constant supervision. Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels within and outside the University. Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills and a results orientation. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Attention to details. Strong technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and other databases needed for the position.

Desired: MA or MFA degree in art or related field. Experience in with TMS collections management software. Experience in the field of the visual arts. Volunteer management and event management experience. Experience in a higher educational setting or non-profit. Working knowledge of Chapman University policies and procedures. Ability to coordinate and work with students.
