Nordstrom Department Manager - Men's Shoes - Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California

The ideal department manager is skilled at teaching directive selling and committed to driving results and providing an exceptional customer experience. If you are interested in the opportunity to support a team, we want to help you get there. It is preferred you spend 12-18 months in this role before being considered for a promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve department volume and productivity goals by developing and executing a business plan

  • Manage salespeople to meet or exceed their Sell More, Make More goals

  • Develop salespeople to build a bench of future leaders

  • Ensure salespeople are delivering outstanding customer service by teaching, coaching and leading by example

  • Coach salespeople to build and maintain personal trade

  • Teach salespeople to act as fashion, product knowledge and fit experts for the customer

  • Ensure salespeople acquire fitter certification

  • Partner with regional merchandiser to ensure the customer receives the best quality, value and selection

  • Ensure merchandising and presentation standards are met

  • Identify, recruit and hire top sales talent

  • Have an active floor presence and achieve personal sales per hour goals

  • Ensure accurate inventory management and achieve shrinkage goals

Qualifications

  • Have a high school diploma, or equivalent (preferred)

  • Track record of successful results, for example, strong productivity, department percent of increase, personal trade, etc.

  • Demonstrated success in using and teaching directive selling

  • Ability to develop a team of All Stars, Future Nordstrom Leaders, Pacesetters, great sellers, etc. a plus

  • Experience successfully promoting salespeople into larger roles a plus

  • Ability to use key metrics, such as hot sellers, top vendors, business by class, etc., to identify opportunities and drive volume

  • Support of current store manager and divisional retail merchandiser

  • Positive evaluation on recent performance reviews

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with department and store managers, divisional retail merchandiser and other leaders

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organizational, delegation and follow-through skills
