Position Summary:

In accordance with the mission and philosophy of Dignity Health, the PACS Administrator - Bakersfield Market applies DH Core Values to the performance to every job duty. The PACS Administrator is responsible to support implementation of DH's Regional IT Clinical strategies, processes and re-engineering that applies to local and regional IT Imaging endeavors. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports the planning and coordinating and helps direct all activities related to design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Bakersfield Market IT Imaging Systems including PACS. Current applications include: EHR systems, Local PACS and Long Term Archive, Cardiology and Ancillary department systems. Forecast and tracks capital and expenses for the programs reflecting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for any Imaging (PACS) related projects, or applications. Interfaces with IT and business and clinical leadership to identify and align application-based solutions with organizational requirements, leveraging technology in support of clinical, business and financial outcomes. Oversees vendor engagement and management related to PACS and related IT Imaging projects. Encourages high performance of team and instills a strong sense of urgency within departments. Is committed to providing continually improving service levels, surfacing issues, and solving those issues by identifying the root cause of each issue. Works with Supply Chain Management leadership and DH Imaging, PACS and Cardiology Councils on developing goals and reporting IT progress and developing and enforcing IT standards. Directs project and operational resources and teams to provide appropriate services to meet performance goals. Maintains a close working relationship with acute care, outpatient referring offices and with radiologists, cardiologists, interventionalists and other imaging clinicians. Conducts thorough analysis and develops strategies, methodologies, and effective relationships to develop, grow, and integrate core IT Imaging related services throughout the organization. Interacts extensively with and builds strong relationships with vendors, hospital leadership and other IT Imaging leaders. The PACS Administrator also serves as the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems Administrator (PACS Administrator) who supports the implementation, training, and evaluation of all related imaging devices and Imaging information Systems (RIS) within DH Bakersfield market. Provides user support by communicating between Information Systems parties and DH. This position monitors application use, system performance, hardware reliability and software stability. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workstations, servers, image workflow, archiving, auto-routing and prefetching and other related activities. Works closely with Department Managers and supervisors to ensure proper operation of image workstations, DICOM digital image data transfer into the PACS as well as network transmission, RIS validation and exceptions handling. Develops and maintains clinical systems downtime procedures, and disaster recovery strategies. Participates in application validation and testing prior to implementation. Captures, defines, and prioritizes pre and post implementation issues. Supports activities in multiple departments as assigned, including but not limited to Radiology, Cardiac Cathlab and Echo departments. Supports, maintains, and creates procedural lists, billing dictionaries, inventory list, reporting system associated within the PACS system. Maintains and reconciles patient data, by analyzing, reporting, and repairing. Collaborates with associated departments within the DH Bakersfield market with the introduction, education of PACS to all healthcare personnel.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in IT Imaging systems, i.e. Cardiology and/or Radiology

  • Associates Degree in IT Engineering, Computer Technology or related field

Preferred Qualications:

  • Bachelors Degree Preferred

Special Skills:

  • Working familiarity with PACS, Merge, DICOM and/or MacLab applications. Working familiarity with PACS, Merge, DICOM and/or MacLab applications.

  • Create and write reports for department management using data contained in computerized systems using end-user reporting tools.

  • Good oral and written communication skills
