Position Title*_:_* Network Operations Tech II - LIT Services/Fiber Solutions

Position Summary

Provide Field support and 24/7 response to Network Outages in assigned region. Installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, testing and handling Passive and ROADM optical transmission systems. Interface with Network Engineering and Provisioning to ensure the on time deployment of new customer services and or new augments to the Core ROADM.

Essential Job Functions

  • Installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, testing and handling Passive and ROADM

optical transmission systems.

  • Fiber Characterization test experience including CD, PMD, OTDR, IOLM, and Power Loss.
  • Provide testing, turn-up and troubleshooting support for Crown Castle
  • Familiar with various types of Ethernet testing in Layer 2 and Layer 3 including RFC 2544, Y.1564, BERT and Frame Analyzer testing.
  • Extensive DC power installation experience and knowledge.
  • Manage and maintain vehicle inventory of emergency spares.
  • Familiar with compliance standards and regulations of the data centers in the Northeast.
  • Perform all activities in a manner to ensure the safety of yourself, your team, your customers and the public.
  • Respond to all network outages, impairments and emergencies in the DAS network
  • Work efficiently and effectively with cross functional departments and peers.


  • High School Degree or equivalent required
  • Associates degree, two year technical degree or equivalent military/systems training experience
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license with a non-negligent driving record

Experience/Minimum Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in the following fields: DWDM Optical transport, Ethernet, and SONET systems, fiber optic installations, repair, testing’ and troubleshooting.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of, fiber optic theory, SONET, Ethernet and PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) related test equipment including JDSU, EXFO, CMA. Experience using OTDR, PMD Optical Spectrum Analyzers, BERT test sets. Fiber testing and analysis, maintenance and RFC2544 testing.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Skilled in trouble ticket or work order systems
  • Exposure to network monitoring systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, while managing time for maximum efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Professional conduct in communication both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle customers in a professional manner
  • Willingness to mentor technicians
  • Able to take lead on projects.

Working Conditions: Works in Data Centers, COLOs, and various client installations. Physical demands of lifting up to 75 pounds. Available to work after hours projects, weekends, Holidays and On-Call Duty as conditions require. May be required to travel and be away from home location, for extended periods of time.
