The following are the broad functional responsibilities of this position:
Assist senior-level management of existing and new projects.
Assist with budget tracking, manage tasks, conduct client coordination, assign staff, and delivery of quality products & service.
Safely and accurately conduct biological investigations (e.g., habitat assessments, surveys for special-status plants or other species, and other sensitive biological resources),
Participate in other biological assignments in accordance with appropriate protocols (e.g., review background information, prepare technical memos/reports).
Understand the implementation of the appropriate protocols for each project assignment, and to produce reliable observations and documentation.
Work successfully both independently and as a team member under the direction of a designated lead Stantec biologist,
Work cooperatively and respectfully with Stantec clients, agency staff, and their representatives.
It is essential that you work safely, efficiently, and effectively with other project team members, and that you are physically and mentally capable of working under a wide range of physical and environmental conditions.
Your job locations in the field may require traversing through rugged terrain, and extended periods of travel away from the office and home may be necessary.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Previous experience as a Senior Biologist, Ecologist or Natural Resources Specialist in a consulting firm is required. Candidate must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in a senior technical capacity.
Experience supporting a diverse range of market sectors is preferred including oil and gas, transportation infrastructure, renewable energy, urban land development, and water resources.
Experience in conducting floristic surveys and mapping of California vegetation communities is a must.
Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities:
Knowledge of the California floristic provinces, particularly the North Coast and Sierra Nevada.
Knowledge and skills in California plant taxonomy and identification. Skilled in the use of botanical resources such as Jepson Manual to aid in taxonomic identification of plants.
Skilled in Sawyer Keeler-Wolf and Holland Vegetation Classification Systems.
Knowledge and experience with special-status plant species.
Demonstrated experience in conducting botanical surveys, and vegetation mapping.
Demonstrated experience and ability to lead a field crew in support of botanical surveys, habitat assessments, vegetation mapping and wetland delineations.
Knowledge of primary California regulatory programs and permitting requirements relative to natural resources: Native Plant Protection Act, Endangered Species Acts (both federal and state ESAs),, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA etc..
Knowledge of various California regulatory agencies and their programs, such as: US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, & Regional Water Quality Control Boards.
Excellent writing skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, with strong interpersonal skills.
Experience managing staff resources.
The candidate should have a Master of Science (M.S) degree or a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree combined with equivalent experience.
Specialization in Botany or in relevant disciplines such as biology, or ecology; is preferred.
Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Prior to employment, this position will require the successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
